Established in 2013, the School of Government at Beijing Normal University evolved from the School of Management founded in 2001. The School of Government currently has over 70 faculty members and more than 1,000 students, constructing a comprehensive system of student cultivation spanning undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs.
The School of Government offers 3 undergraduate programs in Public Service Management, Human Resource Management, and Information Resource Management; 7 master's programs in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Development, Public Sector Human Resource Management, Library Science, Information Science, and Information Analysis, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program; 4 doctoral programs in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Development, and Public Sector Human Resource Management. Additionally, there are 2 post-doctoral research stations in Public Administration and Political Science. The School of Government is authorized to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Public Administration and master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Information Resource Management. Public Administration is recognized as a key discipline in Beijing.
The School of Government boasts a young, vibrant and well-structured faculty team, with over 95% of current teachers holding doctoral degrees, providing robust foundation for cultivation of multi-level, modern, and internationalized talents.
Milestones
1980
Beijing Normal University began developing Management discipline.
2001
The School of Management was established, inaugurated by JIANG Zhenghua, then Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and YUAN Guiren, then President of Beijing Normal University.
Launched the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program (one of the first 24 pilot institutions in China).
2003
Authorized to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Public Administration (one of the first 7 institutions in China).
Authorized to confer master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Management Science and Engineering.
2007
Established a post-doctoral research station in Public Administration.
Information Management and Information Systems major was listed as a national distinctive specialty.
2008
The Research Institute of Social Development and Public Policy within the School of Management became the School of Social Development and Public Policy.
2009
Independently established a doctoral program in Human Resource Management, approved and recorded by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
2010
Began enrolling students for the dual-degree MPA program.
The first-level discipline Public Administration was approved as Beijing Key Discipline.
Authorized to confer master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Library Science and Information Science.
2012
In the third national discipline evaluation, Public Administration ranked seventh and Library, Information, and Archives Management ranked twelfth nationwide.
2013
The School of Management was renamed the School of Government. The Department of Systems Science was restructured into the School of Systems Science. The Political Science and International Relations major was integrated into the School of Government.
2016
In the fourth national discipline evaluation, the first-level discipline of Public Administration was rated A-.
2018
In the first national professional degree evaluation, the MPA program was rated A-.
2019
The Public Service Management major was approved as a Beijing First-class Undergraduate Program.
2020
The Public Service Management major was approved as a National First-class Undergraduate Program.
The Human Resource Management major was approved as a Beijing First-class Undergraduate Program.
The Information Resource Management major was approved as a Beijing First-class Undergraduate Program.
2021
The MPA program received NASPAA international accreditation.
The Human Resource Management major was approved as a National First-class Undergraduate Program.
The Information Resource Management major was approved as a National First-class Undergraduate Program.
